The One Word Invitation

This new year I invite you to consider leaving goals and resolutions behind and choose ONE word.

Yup, just one word. Something which embodies who you are and how you want to live. Something which will direct your decisions, your path, your life for the next 365 days.

We do this all the time in yoga class: set an intention. It is usually something which we want more of or are prepared to let go in our lives. Then throughout class we check in with our intention again and again to see if we are honoring, empowering and tuning into our body, mind and heart.

Setting an intention is a powerful way to harness the subconscious mind. It is a way of  taking control of your life and making your dreams reality.

How to Choose One Word

Ask yourself, “What is important to me?”, “How do I want to feel?”, “What is a guiding principle by which I want to live?”

It may help to brainstorm for a bit, writing down various actions or emotions which come to mind. Then sit for a moment, close your eyes, breathe. Allow the words to filter and settle. A few with naturally resonate with you. Mindfully choose ONE. Visualize the many ways this word influences your life as you live it daily.

Once you’ve picked your word be sure to write your word down and place it in a place of honor. Feel free to embellish it through graphics, a vision board, scrap-booking, collage, etc. Share your word with someone who will be supportive and encouraging. Do something today to embody your word. Revisit your intention regularly and allow it to transform your life in subtle and often not so subtle ways.

At the end of the year spend some time reflecting on your word to truly recognize it’s influence in your life.
